Buteyko - tribute from Margaret Brooks

Tribute from Margaret Brooks

It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of the Russian Medical Scientist Professor Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko, the founder of the Buteyko method.

The news of his death has touched and saddened me. He was an amazing man, a true genius in every sense of the word. He changed my life and my health, more than anyone can ever imagine. I had the great privilege to meet and know him personally, this gave me so much inspiration to carry out his inspired discovery, the Buteyko method.

I promoted his first visit to the U.K. in 1999 with my patients and I joined him at his patient training classes in London and talks at the Heart Hospital. I was lucky enough to have been able to spend many hours in his company trying to converse at first with him (me not speaking Russian and him not speaking English) but still somehow was able to communicate and later on via an interpretor, having great chats, I managed to ask some of the many questions I wanted answers to. I found him to be a very gentle man and will always remember the hugs he gave to me, I was so impressed by him. I obviously wished to thank him from the bottom of my heart for what his method has personally done for me, my life and my health which improved by practicing his method. If anyone ever gets half the improvement that I have from his method, they will be delighted.

Prof. Buteyko had to show tremendous courage and fortitude, over many years, against the medical authorities who were bent on dishonouring his great discovery. Eventually they realised the importance of his method and he was vindicated, his method was finally accepted into mainstream medicine (in Russia). He will always be remembered by those whose lives he touched, either personally or through his practitioners, to the patients he passed on his discoveries to.

His discovery on the effects of hidden overbreathing (hyperventilation) and the detrimental effects it has on the human body.

May he rest in peace.

Margaret Brooks.
Buteyko Practitioner.
